Guru Govind Singh Jayanti 2021;
Today is the birth anniversary of Govind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of Sikhism. People of Sikh community celebrate this birth anniversary as Prakash Parv with great enthusiasm and happiness. On this day, there is a recitation of Kirtan and Guruvani in Gurudwaras. People of Sikh community take out Prabhatferi in the morning and the langar is organized.
Services are performed in gurudwaras of the Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh’s father’s name was Guru Tegh Bahadur and mother’s name was Gujari. He was their only son. Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, was born on 22 December 1666 in Sri Patna Sahib.
Guru Govind Singh founded Khalsa Panth
At the time when Guru Sahib was born, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was on a trip to Bengal and Assam. When the father returned, Bal Guru Gobind ji met him while running. Bal Gombad Rai remained Patna Sahib till he was 6 years old. Khalsa Panth was founded in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh.
According to Hindu calendar, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha of Paush month. He also gave Khalsa Vani – “Waheguru Ji’s Khalsa, Waheguru Ji’s Fatah”.
‘Kesha’, ‘Kadha’, ‘kripan’, ‘Kangha’ and ‘Kaccha’
Guru Gobind Singh also gave five principles for living life, which are called ‘five kakara’. These five things come in five kakars which the Khalsa Sikhs wear. These are ‘Kesha’, ‘Kadha’, ‘kripan’, ‘Kangha’ and ‘Kaccha’. Khalsa disguise is not considered complete without these five.
