Rahul Dravid, known as ‘wall’ in the Indian cricket team, is celebrating his 47th birthday today.

Dravid was born on 11 January 1973 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He made his Test debut against England in June 1996. Rahul is one of the special batsmen, who made his career debut by playing his first Test at Lord’s called ‘Mecca’ of cricket.

In 1996, Rahul Dravid was included in the team in place of injured Sanjay Manjrekar in the Lord’s Test under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. Playing this innings of 95 runs, this player had told what he was going to do next.

In a 16-year long international cricket career, Rahul Dravid played every role for the Indian cricket team, when the team needed it. Rahul Dravid was never a regular wicketkeeper, but when Team India needed a wicketkeeper, he played that role with full vigor.

Rahul Dravid scored 95 runs in his first Test match at Lord’s ground, but this unsurpassed innings did not get as much discussion in front of Sourav Ganguly’s century innings. Ganguly scored a century (131 runs) in his first test and looted all the accolades.

Rahul Dravid scored 13288 runs in 164 Tests for India, including 36 centuries, 63 half-centuries. He played 344 matches for India in ODIs and scored 10889 runs with the help of 12 centuries and 83 half-centuries.

-Rahul Dravid holds the record for most balls played in Test matches, which is very special. In his 16-year career, Rahul faced 31,258 balls and spent a total of 736 hours at the crease, which is a world record.

-Rahul Dravid has been the first batsman in the world to score a century against all 10 teams playing Test cricket.

– Rahul’s record of catching the most catches in the test has also been kept in his name. He has taken 210 catches in Test cricket. This is the most number of catches taken by any non-wicketkeeper.

Rahul kept pursuing his passion which was always cricket but alongside, he graduated from St. Joseph’s college of Commerce, Bangalore. The star cricketer went on to pursue MBA from St. Joseph’s College of Business Administration.

While he was pursuing his post graduation, on the back of some amazing performances in domestic cricket, Rahul earned his maiden call for the Indian team.

Rahul has always been a ‘good boy’ for his parents and in the Indian jersey as well. The cool-headed champion seldom lost his shape or went overboard with emotions.

Rahul Dravid married surgeon Vijeta Pendharkar back in 2003. Rahul has always kept himself away from controversies and the earnestness and honesty with which he performed everything in life is exemplary.
